Walker Coaches Physical Therapists on Marketing, Sales
Helena, Montana
Ripple President and Cofounder Kitch Walker recently presented the day-long seminar “Marketing Your Practice: Mastering the Journey” to members of the Montana chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (MAPTA).
The seminar was specially tailored to address physical therapists needs at the request of MAPTA Executive Director Gail Oss. “Mastering the Journey” refers to Walker’s well developed concept of marketing as an ongoing process. This process is broken down in the five-step concept known as The Ripple Effect. The Ripple Effect consists of the following five steps: 1. Market Research, 2. Customer-Centric Marketing Planning, 3. Fully Integrated Program Execution, 4. Evaluation, 5. Adaptation.
Recognizing that physical therapists are highly specialized professionals who are unlikely to have studied the discipline of marketing, Walker broke down the vast topic to its essentials, giving the group a crash course. Asking the overall question “What is marketing?” he proceeded to delineate exactly how marketing strategies are derived, and how those strategies achieve desired results.
Among the tools used to elucidate these concepts, Walker challenged each member of the group to define marketing for themselves, according to their respective business objectives. The individual purpose for marketing, according to Walker, most often arises from the need to increase something. From this humble starting point, sophisticated, organization-wide solutions can be developed and employed. Drawing on his own extensive experience and success employing such solutions, Walker was able to infuse the day-long discussion with real-world examples and proven tools.
At the heart of marketing efforts is the customer. As Walker told the audience, the customer is “the focus of your existence” in business. Breaking the concept of the customer down, he enumerated the five attributes of every customer: 1. Need, 2. Ability, 3. Willingness, 4. Authority and 5. Desire.
Of the seminar, Oss said, “I received all positive feedback from all who attended [Walker’s] seminar. I think everyone came away with something they could apply to their practices right away. It really got everyone thinking.”
Walker’s seminars are frequently requested by business and trade organizations around the state and region, and he is frequently contracted to present seminars and workshops for private companies.
